• Login Mod

From Richard Vonzel@VERT/FILECABI to All on Tue Apr 1 08:27:43 2025
I'm looking for the Login module. The one that gives the user a choice to login, new user, etc. I've looked on a couple of other BBS's but had no luck.

    Thanks,
    RickV

The "Login module" is in /sbbs/exec (login.js).

Hard to tell from your (very vague) inquiry, but are you maybe referring
to the Digital Distortion Matrix Login modification? If so, I bet you
could find that on the Digital Distortion BBS...

telnet to endofthelinebbs.com and see if that suits your needs? As
Gamgee says, that's the Digital Distortion Login Matrix. You should be
able to find it on Nightfox's BBS.

It's not entirely clear what you're looking for, but if you're looking for a login matrix that gives those options, I made a login matrix and it's available for download on my BBS:

    https://tinyurl.com/mrzhm4fs

    Full URL:

    http://www.digitaldistortionbbs.com/api/files.ssjs?call=download-file&dir=bbsfi le_sync_js&file=DDLM_127.zip

There are other login matrixes available for Synchronet too.

Would it make some sense to have this included in the git repo
(../xtrn), like some of the other DD mods are? It's pretty widely used,
after all, and would make it easier for folks to update it when needed.

I've wondered about that, but I'm not sure.. There are other login matrixes available for Synchronet, but I haven't seen any in ../xtrn. Also, I've wondered if a login matrix would really fit in to what ../xtrn was intended for.

But maybe it would make sense to put it there..

I've done that now, and it's working, but for my BBS, when I load /files/, it prompts me to log in, whereas for yours, it didn't. I have the guest account enabled, which I thought allowed anonymous access to the file areas without needing to log in.. I'm not sure what I may have missed.

Okay, fair enough. In my opinion it "fits", as in that once it's
installed, it's as "integral" to SBBS as other things like DDMsgRdr,
Area Choosers, and more. It's used by a lot of systems also.

I'm not sure how that kind of thing is decided upon - probably up to DigitalMan I would guess, as those externals can effectively become a
"part of" SBBS for all intents and purposes. FWIW, I'm in favor of it.

If you have any file libraries with restricted access, then you'll have to http-login to get the correct list of libraries. Same with directories. But if you provide a link to a file, so long as the directory its in doesn't have restricted access, downloaders won't have to login.
